ChumChumMi is an authentic Korean restaurant in Hong Kong. The taste of their Korean dishes is no different from what I tasted when studying in Korea!
ChumchumMi provides a wide range of authentic Korean dishes that are hard to find in Hong Kong, such as “Grilled Beef Intestines (Gopchang)”, “Chuncheon Spicy Stir-fried Chicken (Dak-Galbi)”, “Spicy Chicken Feet (Dak-Bal)”, “Soy Sauce Marinated Crab (Gejang)”, “Beef Tartare (Yukhoe)”, “Napa Wraps with Pork (Bossam)”, “Pig’s Feet (Jokbal)”, “Ox Bone Soup (Seolleongtang)”, “Noodle Soup with Chicken (Dak Kalguksu)”, “Braised Short Ribs (Galbi-Jjim)”, etc.
The waiters are also Koreans, but you can just speak English with them if you don’t know Korean. Because of the language restriction, the restaurant provides customers with a QR Code. You can scan the code to see the English menu and food images.
Honestly, I would say the restaurant is really hard to find! Because you can’t even find this shopping mall on Google Maps, and I could only find the mall with the same name in Shanghai (I was really frustrated at that time). Moreover, their main entrance is located in the alley, but the bar hides the path to the entrance. The two restaurants share one single signboard, so it is not easy for visitors to find the door.
Although ChumChumMi is in the alley, they are more famous than you expected. Their dinner time is always full, and many Koreans love to visit them. It seems that Korean people also think the food there is very authentic! So please make a reservation before visiting! There are a lot of seats in the restaurant, and they even turned the windowsill spaces into seats. Coupled with the long table seats outdoors, they can entertain 100 people during one round of dining time.
Even though I arrived around 7:30 pm on a Friday night, servers did not limit our dining time. So we kept drinking and chatting until 11:00 pm. They do not care how many rounds of customers they can serve. Even if there should be one more business round, other diners will leave at around 8-9 o’clock. Therefore, you don’t have to worry about the dining experience at ChumChumMi.

Assorted Korean Beef Intestines (small intestine, large intestine, large intestine head, beef heart) 700g
We are really excited to find the “Assorted Korean Beef Intestines / Gopchang” (700g, HKD580) in Hong Kong. It is a must-try cuisine of ChumChumMi (if you love beef intestines). It’s the only authentic Korean restaurant I know to serve Korean Gopchang in Hong Kong. The set includes Korean beef small intestine, large intestine, large intestine head and beef heart. However, the Korean beef large intestine head had been sold out when we ordered. We all looked forward to this plate, the crispy beef large intestine, the most! TT
When we saw the food, we murmured about how small the portion was compared to the picture on the menu. But after cutting off the intestines, it was similar to the size shown on the picture haha.
Similar to what I tried in Korea, Chinese leeks, kimchi and onions were all served on the grill pan. It would be a perfect match when eating Gopchang with those side dishes. People who don’t eat animal organs may find the Korean-style grilled beef intestines greasy. On the contrary, we think they are juicy and will not be too greasy when eating with spicy leeks and kimchi. The taste was really the same as in Korea but it’s a lot more expensive to have Korean-style grilled Gopchang in Hong Kong. If you are craving for 곱창, you must visit ChumChumMi!
Fried Chicken with Honey and Soy Sauce (Whole)
The “Fried Chicken with Honey and Soy Sauce” also surprised us! We all think Kyochon Chicken is the best fried chicken brand in Korea and it is hard to find juicy Korean-style fried chicken in Hong Kong. But, ChumChumMi is one of them.
We were afraid that the sweetness of honey and the saltiness of soy sauce would not match. But it turns out to be a pretty delicious plate! The taste is quite similar to Fried Chicken with Yuzu Honey. People who like sweet and salty taste must order this one! Apart from chicken thighs and wings, other parts were still tender and juicy. Fried chicken lovers, you should give it a try!
Kimchi Pancake
We ordered a “Kimchi Pancake” (HKD110) as an appetizer. Although there was “Kimchi Buckwheat Pancake Roll”, we agreed that the traditional “Kimchi Pancake” was softer, more sticky, and more delicious.
It was a typical and authentic Kimchi Pancake, which can be divided into eight pieces. The portion was sufficient for 4 people. I would definitely recommend ordering this appetizer to share among friends!
Cold Buckwheat Noodles
The “Cold Buckwheat Noodles” (HKD110) is one of the traditional Korean cuisines. To keep it cold, you will find crushed ice cubes under the buckwheat noodles. Enjoy cucumber, white radish, eggs, and beef with noodles!
We were surprised by the Cold Buckwheat Noodles after taking the first bite because it seemed more delicious than what we ate in Korea. It might be because we wanted to refresh ourselves after eating greasy beef intestines.
Furthermore, we ate the noodles until 45 minutes after it was ready on our table. However, the noodles did not swell or become sticky. You can still taste the bouncy and chewy noodles with refreshing cucumber shreds and beef slices.
Edon Rice Wine
I think “Edong Rice Wine” (HKD90) is the original taste of rice wine. You can often see “Makgeolli” in Korean dramas. We thought they would give us the product commonly seen in supermarkets. However, the rice wine was poured into a Korean-style traditional brown wine jug. We also got the dedicated golden bowls for drinking rice wine. It made us feel like going back to the Joseon era.
Edong Rice Wine is mellow, rich in taste, and a bit bitter. As the alcohol content of Korean Makgeolli is much lower than Korean Soju, it is suitable for people who don’t often drink. It would be fantastic to drink rice wine with grilled beef intestines and fried chicken!
Green Grape Rice Wine
Why don’t you try “Green Grape Rice Wine” (HKD140) if you want to drink something special! We assure you that the grape flavor in the rice wine does not come from the “green grape flavoring agent”. ChumChumMi dips green grapes into the rice wine so we can experience the unique green grape flavor of rice wine!
“Green Grape Rice Wine” is sweeter and easier to drink than “Edong Rice Wine”. There were green grapes soaked at the bottom of the bottle, so the rice wine was cool and refreshing. We also poured out and ate all the green grapes. Interestingly, the green grapes “exploded” in our mouths, just like Pop Rocks. It was like pouring sparkling water into the grapes!

Birthday Surprise: great value for paying the cake-cutting fee
According to Openrice’s info, ChumChumMi charges a cake-cutting fee. However, we didn’t ask how much the pie-cutting price was because we did not plan to have a birthday celebration event. But listen! I can tell you that the cake-cutting fee is definitely worth it!
ChumChumMi Korean restaurant inherits the Korean style. You can feel the party and festive atmosphere there! It’s like a place for company get-togethers in Korea. The staff there are friendly and funny, and they will be pleased to help diners prepare a surprise event for the birthday girls/boys. When you tell the server it’s time to celebrate, they will turn all the lights off, play the birthday song, shake the handbell, and bring the cake from the kitchen to your table! All the diners will also sing the birthday song together, so your birthday friend will be the only focus in the restaurant.
I (was) participated in 4 birthday parties that night LOL and sang 4 birthday songs. At the first celebration, I was like, “Oh! Why are all the lights turned off? Does the power go out?”. But for the 4th birthday event, we all laughed and whispered, “OMG! It’s already been the fourth time.”, “The birthday boy/girl will not be surprised after participating in the previous birthday events.”, “If I were the birthday boy/girl, I would be embarrassed during the first few events because I would mistake them as mine.”
